GOLD Magazine: Cannes Yachting Festival
Start of the yachting season on the Croisette
The Yachting Festival in Cannes is one of the most important meeting places for the international boat and yacht industry and we were there exclusively.
For six days, from September 9 to 14, more than 700 boats were on display in the two ports of Vieux Port and Port Canto – from sporty motorboats to 50-meter superyachts.
It became clear how diverse the market has become. In addition to highly customizable luxury yachts that are built according to individual wishes, there are also models that are produced in series. The size of the crews used on many large yachts was also remarkable – often several dozen people for a single family.
The Vieux Port was traditionally the venue for motor yachts and superyachts, while Port Canto hosted the world’s largest exhibition of new sailing boats in the water.
There, shipyards presented numerous world premieres, supplemented by the area for compact motorboats and brokerage yachts and the latest “water toys”.
One focus this year was on innovation and sustainability. Alternative drives, hybrid technologies and resource-saving concepts were presented on a dedicated innovation route. This shows how much the industry is currently changing and how important new technologies are, even in the luxury segment.
With around 56,000 visitors, Cannes is the largest event of its kind in Europe and the official start of the yachting season. Cannes is traditionally followed by the shows in Monaco and Genoa – but the mixture of world premieres, industry news and Riviera flair continues to make Cannes special.
